Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, the reasons it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. By continuing to use the website, you agree to these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside company operating that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its response. We do not keep a local log of those search terms.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email may be retained long enough to review and answer it. Messages remain internal unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, the server can receive routine technical information about the visit:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • Operating system and device category
  • Referring website, when one is supplied
  • Browser name and version
  • Pages opened and approximate time spent
  • The device's assigned IP address

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files that help show broad usage patterns, such as popular pages and common exit points. Analytics providers combine that traffic information for measurement. A browser can reject cookies, although doing so may change how some features work.

What We Do With This Data

  • Finding and repairing errors or performance problems
  • Routing a search request to the selected outside provider
  • Operating the website and improving load speed
  • Measuring which resources visitors use
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

No database of personal criminal-record information is hosted, assembled, or sold here. The content identifies official Lake County and Michigan channels, including the Sheriff, Trial Court, MSP CJIC, and Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not turned into a third-party record or consumer report, and this website is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted through a box is governed by that provider's privacy terms, retention rules, and sharing practices. Review those terms before entering a query because we do not control them.

Links to Other Websites

Links lead to public agencies, courts, legal resources, and outside tools. Once a visitor follows one, the destination's privacy policy applies. Read it before providing personal information.

Advertising companies may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. Their tracking does not run under this policy.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal information is not sold. It may be available to these limited recipients:

  • Analytics vendors measuring traffic and performance
  • Search providers processing a query sent to them
  • Advertising networks serving content on the pages
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable standard safeguards protect the information collected. No internet system can guarantee perfect security, so a breach cannot be ruled out despite those measures.

Users Under 18

The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. Information identified as a minor's can be requested for deletion.

Your Data Rights

Michigan's Consumer Protection Act, MCL 445.901 et seq., and other laws that apply where a visitor lives may provide added rights. The Michigan Freedom of Information Act, MCL 15.231 et seq., governs requests to covered public bodies, not visitor data held by this private website. Michigan's Bureau of Criminal Identification and Records Act, MCL 28.242, separately governs the state criminal-history repository described in the record guides. Available privacy requests may include:

  • Opting out of certain processing where the law allows it
  • Requesting correction of inaccurate personal data
  • Asking for access to personal data held about you
  • Seeking deletion when a legal right applies
